838479 Pte. Mike Bailey was born in Durham, Ontario and was a farm hand in the Allan Park area when war was declared.


Having no living relatives Mike named a friend as his next-of-kin and attested to the 147th (Grey) Battalion on January 6th, 1916.


Mike trained with the 147th, until after they sailed for England on the S.S. Olympic on November 14th, 1916. He was taken on strength with the 4th C.M.R. on April 22nd, 1917, in a draft of men from the 8th Reserve Battalion. This was to replace 4th CMR casualties taken during the Battle of Arras 1917.


Pte. Mike Bailey served with the 4th C.M.R. without noted incident for the duration of the war and was struck off strength 20 March, 1919.
