835729 Pte. Rufus Irwin Jackson was born on September 18th, 1896, in Kingston, Ontario.


The son of Calvin A. and Lena Jackson, of 106 Montreal St. Kingston, Rufus was a frame maker by trade and was living at home with his parents when he attested into the 146th (Frontenac) Battalion on March 14th, 1916, in Kingston, Ontario.


Rufus was one of 276 men of the 146th transferred to the 4th CMR in November and December 1916, and with the 4th CMR in the vicinity of La Folie Wood, Rufus was killed in action on April 11th, 1917, in the Battle of Vimy Ridge.


Rufus Irwin Jackson is buried in Thelus Military Cemetery, located at the foot of the ridge, just outside of Thelus, France. He was 20 years of age.
